Frequently Asked Questions

Coming with Curiosity

Beginning therapy IS scary. It’s a jump into the waters of self-reflection, emotional processing, and often, life-changing insights. But I’m here to help you swim.

As we embark on this new path, I invite you to develop a practice of curiosity. Through asking honest and sincere questions and naming your needs and concerns, we can clarify the path forward, assuage uncertainty, and act with intention. Below are some frequently asked questions; however, I gently welcome any additional questions that may arise during our time together.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • That’s completely okay. Many clients begin the process with uncertainty, nervousness, hesitancy, and fear. This is quite normal, and I’m here for that. It’s part of my role to help create a welcoming, warm, and accepting space where you can explore your concerns, challenges, hopes, and goals at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive to you. Together, we will identify how the therapeutic space can be utilized to effectively support you in creating a meaningful, connected life.

  • The therapeutic relationship is deeply personal, and not every pairing of client and clinician is aligned and congruent. I invite you to trust your intuition - for instance, noticing how you feel in my presence, whether you feel seen, safe, and understood.

In the case that we aren’t the match you’re looking for, I also encourage you to continue exploring alternative counselors. Each counselor brings a unique perspective, personality, skill set, and collection of lived experience; no two of us are the same.

  • We will begin our first session gently. I will share about myself as is appropriate and ethical, and I will also share about my therapeutic practice. You are welcome to ask questions. to which I will navigate and model boundaries as needed.

After soft introductions, we will review consent forms, paperwork, and policies to clarify any lingering questions.

The bulk of our first session will be primarily focused on what we call an “intake.” Intakes, I admit, can feel personal and vulnerable as I recognize I’m a stranger and you just met me. The purpose of an intake is to help us assess what’s bringing you to therapy, what you hope for, and what feels most important to begin with. Acknowledging the vulnerability of this process, I will actively and consciously support us, pausing, and offering therapeutic care as needed.

Upon completing the intake and in between our next session, I will design a treatment plan for you which identifies your goals and objectives. This plan can be utilized in many ways, such as a tool for tracking progress.

In coming sessions, we’ll collaboratively review the treatment plan, adjust as needed, and begin shaping a path that feels aligned with your pace, needs, and goals.

  • Sessions are typically 53 minutes.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build connection and clarify direction. Over time, some shift to bi-weekly or periodic check-ins. We’ll decide together what rhythm best supports your healing.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for several months around a specific transition. Others stay for a year or longer as they explore deeper patterns, meaning-making, or trauma integration. You are always in charge of your pace, depth, and duration, and I hope to empower you to choose therapeutic pathways that feel safe, encouraging, and perhaps, even inspiring. I am always open to discussion and feedback about your experience!

  • I do not provide 24/7 or emergency services. If you are in immediate danger or crisis, please contact local emergency services, call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988, or visit your nearest emergency room.

You matter, and help is out there.
